Not the least of which are the absolutely stunning endless gold and green rice fields only broken by groves of bamboo and palms, with a stunning backdrop of hazy Blue Mountains-who could resist?

Cultural of Assam

Despite being a part of India the culture in Assam is proud and distinct from those around it. There is a religion here known as the Neo-Vaishnavite, which is considered to be a sect or branch of the Hinduism faith which is on a par with being a “national” religion in the state. The gamosa which is a red and white embroidered scarf is worn by many Assamese men for prayer purposes is a mark of this. Traditionally a hybrid of many cultures the Assamese culture is a varied one from much of India. In this enchanting state you can find various traces from racial stocks such as mongoloid, Indo-Iranian and Aryan.

There are a large number of tribes in this state and each of these tribes has a unique outlook on life. The traditions, dress, culture and such are different between each tribe. Despite having their own languages and beliefs they are brought together by the fact that Assamese is the primary language of the state. There is much importance placed on the three Bihu festivals (Bohaag Bihu, Kaati Bihu, and Maagh Bihu) and they are celebrated without a care for caste, creed or religion.

Tourism in Assam

Assam is a greatly hospitable place that many people grow to love. The national parks protect an amazing array of wildlife. The food is gorgeously delicious in a fruity and mild way.

Dominated by the Brahmaputra River, Assam is known worldwide for its tea plantations and the tea that comes from them, the one horned rhinoceros that resides here and its other stunning wildlife too. In fact it is not uncommon to assume that the greatest draw card of the state is the Kaziranga National Park. Guwahati houses many ancient Hindu temples and is one of the best places to base yourself to visit the rest of the north eastern region. From here you can visit the capital of Dispur and other destinations such as Hajo, Digboi, Manas, Jorhat and Sibasgar.

The Climate of Assam

Characterised by the high humidity and a high precipitation rate during the times when the north eastern area is supposed to have less rainfall give Assam a curious quality. The cold weather lasts from October to February and the wet weather lasts for the rest of the year. In fact areas like Cherrapunji and Mawsynram are considered to get some of the highest rainfalls in the entire world. The majority of the rain is concentrated in the monsoon season of June to September.

Facts:

Area: 78550 km sq

Altitude: varies according to location

Geographical Location: 26°09'N 91°46'E?
